Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Steve & Veva Ruggles Ruggles Peter & Ruth |
Our son, Peter, continues to work as a driver for Winfield Pharmacy and lives in our basement. He also became certified as a pharmacy technician at WP so he can help fill prescriptions. Throughout the year he has attended Anime Conferences with his friends. He also played a butler in the play, "Importance of Being Earnest" at Southwestern College this summer. Peter is applying again for Grad School for 2012 Fall. We will see what the Lord works out for him. Peter celebrated New Year in Scotland with his lifelong friend John Wilkos. Peter spent 3 weeks touring the Scotland area. Peter said, "It was pretty cool and ready to return." Some of the highlights for him was hitchhiking on the Isle of Skye, going to several museums (especially the British Museum), visiting several castles, seeing Loch Ness, going to Wales, staying in a hostel for two weeks, and hanging out with John and his friends. |

Our daughter, Ruth, is still living and working in Nebraska. She really enjoys her job and loves Nebraska. She has gotten connected in a great church and recently started helping with their youth group. She keeps busy with work, church, and spending time with friends. She followed in her father's footsteps and went skydiving for the first time. She loved it and plans on going again soon. She also traveled quite a bit this year including going to Maine to visit a friend for a few days. In February, Ruth and Steve went on a missions trip to Reynosa, Mexico with Veva's cousin's church from Newton. They spent a week volunteering with Children's Haven International, an orphanage. They were able to play with kids and also help out by painting and doing other construction projects. Ruth got to use her Spanish and Steve had fun making balloon animals for the kids on the last night. |
We had a fun year visiting with family and friends. Family gathering started out with the Ruggles Reunion at Winfield in June. There were several who spent time going over genealogy and visiting about the family line. The Winfield Blue Grass Band entertained us for the evening off the back porch of Mom and Dad Ruggles' house. Our second gathering was in Sevierville, Tennessee with Steve's folks and sisters. We visited the Bush's Bean factory and got our picture taken with Duke. We also drove around Cade's Cove and saw some deer and bears. The best part was reconnecting with friends from our singles years and with family that we hadn't seen in a long time and cousins that Steve connected with on line. We had to pick up Ruth at the airport so we used Veva's navigator on her Sprint phone to find our way. We had quite an adventure. Veva programmed in the Knoxville Airport. We found ourselves going back roads and ending up at a little airport. We had a decision to make, get mad and frustrated or just laugh. We chose to laugh. Our lesson learned: Make sure you know the exact name of where you are going. |

Our third gathering was with the Adams' family to celebrate Dad and Mom Adams 65th Anniversary in August. Thirty-one of us (Three children plus 2 spouses, 7 grandchildren and 5 spouses, and 12 great grandchildren plus Mom & Dad) gathered together in Hillsboro at Veva's brother. On Sunday we invited extended family and had a great time of fellowship and sharing of memories. On Saturday, November 6, we experienced our first earthquake in Kansas that we actually felt. We had four within a couple of days but we only felt the one. We were watching a movie and sitting in our recliners enjoying ourselves when all of a sudden the room started moving. We first thought it was a semi driving by on our street but Steve looked out and didn't see one. |
Our Thanksgiving gathering with family was with the Ruggles' first cousins in Dallas. Steve and some of his cousins & his sister's family walked in the YMCA 5K Turkey Trot (about 3.2 miles). We found ourselves eating, watching Dallas Cowboys, and catching up on each other's family. On December 8, Veva had carpal tunnel surgery on her left hand. She has to wear a wrap on her hand for two weeks. On the 23rd, she will have the stitches taken out and begin therapy. |
