The Ruggles' Hobbies - We have taken on a new hobby to help us get healthy and well. In January we started training for our first 5K run. Ruth challenged us and we took up the challenge. Due to having a bad heel, Veva does her training on the elliptical. Steve began running in the gym and also outside. After 6 months of training, Steve, Veva and Ruth participated in the Junebug Jog 5K in Winfield. Steve ran the whole way and Veva walked the whole way. |

In November, we all again participated in another 5K. This one was called Mustache Dash.Steve was the only one who had his real mustache so the rest of us were given fake ones. Two of Ruth's friends from Nebraska came down and joined us. We all finished well. Steve even finished 3rd overall in his age group. But don't tell anyone but there were only 8 in his group. |
Peter's hobby is riding his bike. In Lawrence you will see him riding his bike to most places. He planned another 450 mile trip this past summer. He followed the Katy Trail in Missouri all the way to St Louis. He was able to do it in 5 days. He went over bridges, through tunnels, and camped out along the trail. | ![]() |

The Ruggles Serving Others - We still are very active in our church, Cornerstone Bible Fellowship. We help on Sundays by ushering and doing the computer presentation. On Wednesdays, we work in Awana as commander and club secretary and also as Sparks Director. This keeps us busy from week to week. In July, we went on a mission trip to Mexico to help at the Children's Haven International in Reynosa. Children's Haven is a home for children who can no longer stay with their parents or home. We traveled down with 5 others from our church. Our team had 2 projects - one group painted classrooms for their school and the other group worked on remodeling one of their group homes by taking off ceramic tiles off of the bathroom walls and floor. It was hard work, but thank goodness we only worked from 8 to 1. After work, we would eat, shower and take a nap. After our nap, we had lessons for the children with a craft and in the evening we would spend time playing with the children. We thank you for your support for us through your prayers and financially. |
Ruth also went on a mission trip to Johannesburg, South Africa with her church from Nebraska. Her team helped with a Vacation Bible School for children. They also visited different orphan care organizations looking to see how their church could partner with them in the future. | ![]() |

Ruth has been with now working for 3 ½ years. In January she moved to Wichita to work for the HR Compliance team. She has been traveling all over United States to work in different plants the company owns. While she was traveling to the different sites she took advantage and did some sightseeing - snow shoeing in Yosemite, seeing the Red Wood trees, deep sea salmon fishing, and visiting many family and friends. Peter finished his first year working on his Doctorate in Chemistry and started his second year in August. He works on his research project for his professor, supervises 2 labs for General Chemistry, and takes classes. He has 3 ½ years left. |
