I (Jesus) have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world
you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world." John 16:33

RUGGLES 2020 JOURNEY

Our first granddaughter, Chloe Karabo arrived the
first of the year. The name Karabo comes from South Africa which means answer. Veva was able to go and
spend two weeks to help Ruth because of her sister,
Gloria who blessed her so she could do what Veva's
mom used to do. Veva's mom would always come and
help us after we had babies. Steve and the kids came
up for weekend when Chloe was one week old. It has
been fun getting to know Chloe. The kids have had
fun being Aunts and Uncles all enjoying holding Chloe.

COVID has come and has changed how we do life. We
began a Quarantine Life. It caused us to stay home

where we had to find things to entertain ourselves at home with each other instead of other people. Only Dad went out to work every day having to wear a mask. Mom to would put on a mask and would go out occasionally to go shopping for things that were needed.

Our front room was transformed into our church where we worshipped along with others watching the Live Feed on YouTube. It also became our classroom to finish out the school year. Timothy finished out his 8th Grade and Elizabeth finished her 7th Grade by remote. Though mostly workbook and prepared items, Jacob finished 4th grade, Daniel finished 1st and Lydia finished preschool.

Since it was recommended to not travel and to avoid large gatherings we were unable to get together with Ruth, Keanon and Chloe. We had to be creative in staying in contact. Ruth introduced Veva to the app Marco Polo and it became one of the ways we communicated with Chloe. We got to watch her grow and change. It was fun making videos and coming up with different things to do.

This year was the first year in long time that we didn't have any reunions. Our Ruggles Reunion in Kentucky, Brooks Reunion in Kansas and the Adams Cousin Reunion were all cancelled to try to keep everyone safe. Hopefully this next year we will get together some of our families again.

In May, we began seeing things open up. First was our church. It was great to get together to worship and fellowship even with some restrictions. Next to open up were outdoors activities for the kids through our Rec Center. We participated in outdoor soccer and swim lessons.

We were also able to get together with Ruth, Keanon and precious Chloe. They came down to Winfield over July 4th weekend. Then we were able to go see Chloe's Dedication Service the end of July. We left Timothy at Ruth's for 2 weeks. He had a great time being an Uncle and cooking different meals and helping Keanon build some end tables for each one of the kids to go by their beds. They brought Timothy home and we got to spend time together again. It has been fun being Granny Ve and Grandpa Steve, Uncle Timothy, Aunt Elizabeth, Uncle Jacob, Uncle Daniel and Aunt Lydia.

On August 24, Trinity Lutheran School started in person school with several restrictions. Ruth helped me by making some fun mask for the kids which they have to wear most of the day. This year, Jacob, Daniel and Lydia are attending Trinity. On September 2, we started Awana at our church with the Awards night which we didn't get to have in May. All the kids received an award. On September 8, Timothy started in person school and Elizabeth started the 9th. Because of COVID, Timothy and Elizabeth once again started remote learning in November.

Lydia is 6 and started Kindergarten at Trinity. She finished her 2nd book in Cubbies and received her 2nd Book Ribbon. She started ballet classes with DanceCamp studios. She enjoys learning to dance, riding her bike, watching videos and chasing after her brothers.

Daniel is 8 and started 2nd Grade at Trinity. He finished his second book in Sparks and received his 2nd Book Ribbon. He enjoys playing soccer, playing outside and catching bugs and snakes. His first grade class published a book on COVID and he wrote a page and drew a picture.

Jacob is 10 and started 5th Grade at Trinity. He finished his second book in Truth and Training and received his Excellence Trophy. He enjoys playing soccer, reading, playing outside and also catching bugs and snakes.

Elizabeth is 13 and started 8th Grade at the Winfield Middle School. She finished her 4th book in Awana and received her Timothy Trophy. She enjoys playing soccer and has really improved her skills due to a coach who has given extra time to help her and others improve their skills.

Timothy is 15 and started his Freshman year at Winfield High School. He finished his 4th book in Awana and received his Timothy Trophy. He went out for High School soccer and as the season went along he got to play more and more time on Varsity. He also likes to learn about cars.

Ruth, Keanon and Chloe have lived most of this year outside of Columbus, Nebraska. Ruth is enjoying being a fulltime mom. Keanon continues to work for UPS and take classes through Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. In December they will move to Kansas City on campus for Keanon to finish his education. We just found out that Chloe will become a big sister in May.

Peter continues to live in Lawrence in the same apartment he has lived in for the past 8 years. He continues to work as a Chemist. COVID has kept us from seeing much of him this year since Lawrence has seen lots of cases. We got to see him at the end of September when we all got together for family pictures.

On June 9, Steve and Veva celebrated their 36th Anniversary. Steve continues to work at the Kansas Veteran Home while Veva keeps the home going with her homemaking. They both continue to be involved in Awana at their church. On November 19, we celebrated 4 years of adoption. What a journey it has been. We look forward to what God has for us in the future.
