John Brimmer Ruggles: (Find-A-Grave Memorial)
John & Elizabeth lived in Lewis, Mason & Fleming counties in KY. They lived in what is now W.VA and MD. He was the first Ruggles to pay taxes in Mason/Lewis Co Ky 1793. His will was dated 9/10/1822 (actual date of death not known) in which he left everything to his wife, Betsy. He died in Miami/Shelby Co., OH. According to Rev. James S. Ruggles' letters of 1926-1930 he had to be a brother to William Ruggles born probably in the 1750 who was married to Lucy. Rev. James S. Ruggles states that he had a cousin in Tollesboro who's names was W.H. Ruggles. The only W.H. Ruggles there in those years was a William H. and Harriett Hisey, son to Jermiah, Grandson to Thomas P. and Great Grandson to this John. Having gone through the Ruggles genealogy by Henry Stoddard Ruggles, could not find any John, James or Benjamin Ruggles that could have come to KY. This could be the same John born Dedham, Mass 9/17/1752, died 9/22/1821. He paid taxes in Fleming County, Kentucky, 1800 and 1810. His Grandson, William H.L. Ruggles in his write up states that he and Elizabeth were born in Richland County, OH.

1820 Shelby Co. Oh 2m 0-10, 2m 10-16, 2m 16-18, 1 m 45+, 1 F 0-10, 2F 10-16, 1F 45+.

He last paid taxes in Lewis County, Kentucky, in 1808. At that time Thomas started paying taxes on the same land and same acreage on Cabin Creek near Joseph Fitch.

I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Betty Rugles all my estate goodes and chatels of what kind and nature soever whome I here by apoint sole executrix of this my last will and testament have by revokeing all former wills by me made. In witness where of I have hre unto set my hand and seal this twelve day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty two.

Date of death unknown-will was dated 9 Oct. 1823 and her estate was probated thereafter and the children were named. This families' records are in both Shelby and Miami County Ohio. Birth place for both Elizabeth and husband John are from son George 1880 cen record. Her name may have been Brimmer per Al Stude. Lee Ruggles gives her name as Plumer. I don't know where he got this name from.
