Honduras Mission Trip

Day 4

Greetings from Honduras,

Monday morning we ate breakfast at 6:30, packed our tools, and headed out to the worksite. Mike, Hans (Mikes right-hand man) and several Honduran workers were already at work when we arrived and of course they wondered if we were the second shift reporting for work.

We went to work wheelbarrowing the sand-gravel mix into the building to prepare to mix the concrete for the floor. At that point the water quit so Hans took his pickup and went to there shop to load up a tank to fill with water. While he was gone Brent, Steve, and Mike began helping another worker digging the hole for the septic tank. The rest of us hung some window doors, put up the stops for them, and the other Honduran workers worked on plastering the walls and leveling the floor of the first room in preparation for the cement

Keith and Hans are hanging a door. That is the first time we caught Hans working.

We had some kids hanging around all day. Steve had good time pestering them (imagine that).

I want your candy! Give it to me!

Keith showed them his juggling ability and shot some marbles with one little boy.

Look at me, I can juggle.

A young man came to Mike asking for some medicine for his child who needed some medicine for an asthma condition. Mike had to go take his dogs to the vet and through his wife who has kept up her nursing license was able to obtain some medicine. When he returned he asked Hans to ask the man if he would be willing to work the day to pay for the medicine. He agreed and prepared the second room and did most of the leveling of the cement himself.

Gordon and Keith worked on hanging doors and putting in the stops and latches on to make the house secure for the night. Brent and Steve finished up the hole for the septic tank and the Honduran workers had the floors finished in two rooms, and the house had all but one opening closed up ready for the night.

It is getting deeper (we are digging the septic tank).

Hans hired a guard for the night so we were able to leave.

We arrived back at the hotel around 4:30. Brent, Keith, and Steve took a dip in the ocean; we showered and ate supper at the hotel. Goodnite for another day.
